This week is it Oneta’s turn and she has provided us with a very thought provoking quote:

What follows is my response:

“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.”  George Eliot

David quietly gathered his stones, one by one by one.  He carefully chose them.  He held them in his hand and measured their shape and weight.

The Israelites were confused.  David had challenged Goliath to meet for combat in the morning.  Whatever could he be doing paying so much attention to those small stones?  He must be mad.

Goliath spent the night laughing and drinking and boasting about his soon to be success in the morning.  His raucus laughter and loud boasting could be heard in the camp of the Israelites and caused terror amongst them.

But still David quietly went about the business of the stones.

In the morning David loaded one of his carefully chosen stones in his sling and Goliath fell.  The Israelites were saved by a boy and a small stone.

ALL IS NOT LOST

On a grey January day, a small leaf clung to a might oak.  I don’t want to leave you cried the leaf.  The day is dark and cold.  Fear has gripped me in his icy hand.

The mighty oak said quietly, change must come my dear little leaf.  Do not fear it.  Each leaf remembers the spring and summer with gladness.  Each leaf revels in the magnificence of autumn.    And each leaf fears winter.

For now dear little leaf it seems all is lost.  But the destiny of spring and renewal is in our life source and will be written by us again.

My thoughts this week turn to the new year of 2017 approaching and Jacqueline’s quote left me thinking about how we are all vessels sailing into the new year with hope for the future.  The following poem spoke to me:

Upon the bridge you stand;
It’s your ship, aye, your own ship,
And you are in command.
Just what the twelve months’ trip will do
Rests wholly, solely, friend, with you.

Your logbook kept from day to day
My friend, what will it show?
Have you on your appointed way
Made progress, yes or no?

The sort of captain that you are.

For weal or woe this year is yours;
